The government of Sweden takes Dhimwit of the Month honors for
April, since they somehow managed to stand out among other pampered
European nations that are slowly collapsing under the weight of
Muslim immigration and corrosive socialist economic policy.
Twenty years ago, Swedes seemed to have it pretty good – at least on
the surface. The government had designed a veritable welfare state
based on wealth redistribution, with benefits like paid education
through the PhD level, unlimited sick days and unemployment
compensation that was equal to about 75% of pay. Today about four
out of 10 Swedes work for the government and nearly everyone else is
in a labor union.
One problem with wealth redistribution, however, is that sooner or
later it collapses under its own weight. Keep taking the money away
from people who earn it and you gradually reduce their incentive to
continue working harder than the rest. But there have to be people
motivated to do more than what is required of them in order to
support those who choose the path of least resistance.
Over the years, the national debt ballooned, and (as staggering as
it may seem) the budget deficit is about equal to the GDP. Of
course, it didn’t help matters that productivity declined over the
25-year period between 1970 and 1995, while the cost of employment
rose by 700%. After all, who goes to work if they can call in sick
anytime they want?
But enough economics. What makes Sweden our Dhimwit of the Month?
Well,
like all Western countries that have created stable, prosperous
societies, the Swedes naturally decided to gamble with immigration,
which is basically the inexplicable decision to try and absorb large
numbers of people from failed countries who may or may not want to
adopt your values.
Not surprisingly, those most eager to leave their native countries
for Sweden are Muslim, and this includes a great many from Turkey
(said to be the most tolerant and modern of Islamic nations).
The pattern that many of these Muslim immigrants follow is to get on
the welfare rolls and stay there. In fact, they are beginning to
overload a system that already suffers one of the highest tax
burdens in the world. Most refuse to assimilate and some openly
advocate replacing the judicial system with Sharia (although just
for Muslims, they insist with a sly wink).
Worse than that is the skyrocketing crime rate, which is closely
tied to Muslim immigration. The Brussels Journal
found
that the number of rape cases in Sweden has quadrupled in the last
twenty years, and 85% of the rapists are either first or second
generation immigrants. The Swedes have opened their gates to an
enemy that now works within the system to undermine it by using
every advantage that their hosts generously extend them.
Europe has an impressive history of resisting Jihad, but that was
long before common sense gave way to political correctness. The
battle is now waged behind the lines as Islamists co-opt the
culture, burden the public infrastructure and even
rape
the daughters of those who subsidize their living costs.
But this is similar to what is happening in nearly every other
country in Western Europe. What makes the Swedes stand out?
After the Palestinians elected the Hamas terrorist organization to
power in January, most of the Western nations that had been sending
“humanitarian aid” to the Palestinian Authority wisely decided to
reduce funding. Hamas has a brutal history of blowing up bus
passengers, café patrons, and anyone else who happens to find
themselves in the sort of venues where innocent and unarmed
civilians are in close proximity. Refusing to fund a terrorist
state sends the Palestinians a message that reduces the incentive
for such choices in the future.
Sweden, however, has done their best to help Hamas stay in power.
They not only continued their support to the tune of nearly 70
million euros annually, but actually increased it by five
million. No other non-Islamic country has done more to insulate the
Palestinians from the consequences of choosing violence and terror.
Thanks in part to Sweden, the Middle East should remain a powder keg
for decades to come.
The Swedish government also shut down the websites that published
“offensive” cartoons of Muhammad, while squelching an investigation
into recorded hate material distributed by local mosques that called
for the killing of Jews. In other words, drawings of a man who died
1400 years ago are censored, since they offend Muslims, but openly
advocating the murder of today’s Jewish innocents is good, clean
fun.
On the diplomatic front, they’ve issued visas to Hamas, thus
legitimizing the organization and giving it a foothold into European
political circles. And, just last
week, they pulled out of EU military exercises because Israel was
also scheduled to participate.
If the dhimwitted Swedes think that playing to the bigotry of the
Islamic world will gain them favor and avert the inevitable, then
they’re merely whistling past the graveyard. Muslims in Sweden are
already
making demands
with increasing forcefulness as they measure for curtains and look
ahead to the transfer of power.
The bloody history of Islam is unchanging. It is not a religion
that has any obligation to reciprocity or assimilation. Nor does it
view compromise as anything but a temporary condition for
accumulating the strength for full victory. Like cancer, it must be
caught early and contained, before it has a chance to turn the body
against itself. And, like cancer, it seeks total domination – first
of the individual, then the ummah, then over the unbelievers.
Because we know these things, we also know what the future holds for
the naïve Swedes… and especially their children, who will have more
to worry about than merely paying the bills for their parents’ life
of ease.
