What the Apologists Want You to Believe

Huwayrith ibn Nafidh was one of the unfortunates whom Muhammad ordered put to death after marching an army into Mecca, thus contradicting the narrative that everyone was forgiven.  DTT says that his crime was "abusing the daughters of the apostle" and "waging war against the Muslims."

What They Offer as Proof

The claim about "abusing the daughters" actually comes from a footnote added to a secondary narrative by Ibn Hisham. 

The part about "waging war on Muslims" comes from the opinion of a 21st century scholar.


What They Leave Out and Why They are Wrong

The reliable Sira plainly states the reason why Huwayrith ibn Nafidh was executed at Mecca:
Another was al-Huwayrith b. Nuqaydh b. Wahb b. 'Abd b. Qusayy, one of those who used to insult him in Mecca. (Ibn Ishaq 819)
Even the very account cited by DTT, Ibn Hisham, says that al-Huwayrith was killed because he "used to insult him [Muhammad] in Mecca."  No word of a camel or "waging war."  Yet, DTT leaves out the real reason and focuses on an unsupported footnote and the imagination of someone living 1400 years later.
